This first ‘group hand-out’ card has no telephone contact number. In 1962 no one had a telephone. The GPO installed our telephone in 1964 and ‘our house’ was the first house in the street to have a telephone. The neighbours would visit to use the telephone and leave 4 pennies on the hall table as payment. The telephone visit was always conducted in a most solemn manner because telephone calls were a serious endeavour in 1964. Out of town calls had to go through the operator (no trunk calls) and of course even the coarsest neighbour put on their Sunday best, posh voice for the telephone!

1962 B.D.G.’s: Barry Parkinson, David Iddon, Graham Parkinson. One hot Sunday afternoon in May 15 years old Graham Parkinson and 14 years old Barry Parkinson were waiting at home for a special delivery. At around 15.30 William Leyland (musical instrument retailer and much more!) knocked on the door and delivered two Watkins Rapier guitars, one Watkins Dominator 17 Watt unidirectional amplifier, one Watkins Copycat echo-chamber, two Grampian microphones and two microphone stands. Our friend 15 years old David Iddon had acquired a second hand drum kit from the Salvation Army: snare, bass and cymbal. We set up in the spare bedroom. We couldn’t really play, (we knew three chords) yet struggled through several Shadows, Jerry Lee Lewis and Johnny Cash numbers. We thought we sounded great so we formed a group! Dennis just 12 years old joined the group three years later.

1965: Dennis Parkinson bought a 12 string acoustic guitar and fitted a home made electric pick up. He teamed up with Robin Ainscough – guitar and formed a duo.
